Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in developing students’ entrepreneurial skills through biotechnology-based Project Based Learning (PjBL) at SMP Negeri 1 Kasembon. The research is motivated by the low proportion of young entrepreneurs in Indonesia and the need for an educational approach that fosters creativity, independence, and adaptability to 21st-century challenges. A qualitative descriptive research design was employed, focusing on the stages of PjBL implementation, the characteristics of students’ entrepreneurial skills, and strategies for strengthening entrepreneurship through biotechnology projects. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation of project-based learning activities. The findings indicate that the integration of PjBL within the Merdeka Curriculum significantly enhances students’ self-confidence, creativity, leadership, future orientation, and ability to plan and produce economically valuable products. The use of biotechnology projects, such as processing banana peel waste into liquid organic fertilizer, provides contextual learning experiences that enable students to understand real business processes. This study concludes that the integration of the Merdeka Curriculum and biotechnology-based PjBL is effective in fostering entrepreneurial skills among junior high school students and has strong potential as an innovative instructional model for secondary education
